So, I’m super into bullet journaling and planning. I know its a crazy trend right now and everyone is getting into it, but the thing is…I’ve been doing this as long as I can remember.
Plum Paper Planners.
You name it, and I’ve used it.
Life is pretty damn crazy and it’s so easy to get lost in your own life. Here are 10 reasons why you should use a planner or bullet journal in your life!
1. YOU WON’T FORGET ANYTHING….LIKE EVER.
This is the most obvious of the reasons but if you’re anything like me, you forget things the second you hear them. By using a planner, everything is written out for you, and all you have to do is open it! Due dates won’t sneak up on you and that weekly coffee date with your girlfriends will be marked out! They’ll always be on the calendar for you to see.
2. BIG PICTURE
Events won’t sneak up on you! Whether it’s a friend’s birthday party two months away or the work meeting coming up in a couple weeks, you’ll never forget it. No rush-to-find-the-right-outfit nights or can’t-make-it-because-I-totally-forgot-about-it days! By writing everything down you have coming up, you can plan ahead. Get those things done early so you have the free time when you need it!
3. YOU CHECK THINGS OFF YOUR TO-DO LIST
Just take my word…Checking things off from a to-do list may be the most satisfying feeling in the entire world. It really, really is. Who doesn’t love the feeling of checking something off a list? Or even better, checking everything off a list? Using a planner is helpful and rewarding. It just makes you feel good!
4. YOU KNOW THE ANSWER
If anyone asks you when something is due, what time that meeting starts, or where some event is – you’ve got the answer. It’s a great feeling…. plus you’ve helped out yourself and a friend now!
5. KEEP RECORDS
A planner offers super easy access to appointments, tasks, and notes. Just open it up and BAM, there it is! You can easily find important information, such as, when did you last meet with a client, go to the doctor, or when did your dog get its last round of shots? Quickly being able to lay your hand on that information can be really helpful in the future!
6. ALL YOUR STUFF IS IN ONE PLACE
How much of your life is is scattered on sticky notes or the backs of envelopes in your car? A planner offers one convenient place to record all that important information. Most planners have sections for notes, to-do lists, and shopping lists. Literally anything you can think of can be included in a planner. Take advantage of carrying it around with you and use it to keep track of everything you need. A planner is so much easier to keep up with than a thousand notes you can’t remember where you put them.
7. THERE IS ONE FOR YOU OUT THERE!
I personally know a lot of people that don’t use a planner because they’re too much work. But they don’t have to be. I use a bullet journal that I can completely customize to me. If you prefer a more simple option, there are planners that are only dates and times. Another option is to go paperless. Try the calendar app on your phone or Google Calendar is another great option for on the go planning. Find what works for you! Like I said above….I have used so many different options of planners, I will be glad to help you find what will work best for you!
8. IT CAN HELP YOU SET AND KEEP GOALS
Many times, I’ve written out goals I want to accomplish, books I want to read, houses I want to sell, in the page margins of my planner. Later, I can look at those and pencil in deadlines for when I’d like to have them done or cross them out when I have accomplished that goal. It makes you feel a whole lot better when you are accomplishing the things you want to be doing.
9. BUILT IN MEMORY KEEPING
Your planner can be like your diary…but not like your 12 year old girl diary. Before my life turned into a constant activity train, I loved to scrapbook all my memories. Right now (or probably ever) there just simply aren’t enough hours in the day to sit down and create elaborate scrapbooks books like I did before. I love that by keeping up with my planner, all of the activities or trips my family participates in are documented for me to look back on later on. I love to add little notes about the activities listed on our calendar (game scores, special memories of my little ones first words, steps, and more) to add an even greater personal touch to my planner, and having everything written in my own handwriting will make this something my kids might like to look back on for years to come! You never know!
10. IT’S A FEEL GOOD
You’ll feel amazing. Having that feeling of having your sh*t together, even just slightly organized, is amazing. I’ve learned that helping yourself even in the smallest ways – like writing everything down in your planner – is a super effective way to keep your stress away! Who doesn’t want that?!
People who plan are far more successful than people who don’t! Whether success is having a meaningful day spent at home with your children, sitting in the classroom, or crushing it in sales, a person with a plan is always going to outperform someone without a plan.
But not just a plan — You need a daily repeatable system for taking action. That is exactly what a good planner will offer you. It will hold you accountable each day to living out your dreams, plans, and aspiration. So, if you aren’t already using a planner, go get one today. It doesent have to be fancy….a notebook and pen will work just fine. Stop missing out on these benefits and many more.
“How is tomorrow going to be what you want it to be, if you don’t plan for it today?”
